Weekend Recap

Does anybody notice a theme here? I seem to only been updating on Mondays! I think about sitting down to blog a few times a week but then… life happens!

Tuesday was an internship day last week, Wednesday was a short work day, and Thursday was an internship day. So I’ll start with Thursday since nothing happened the other two days!

THURSDAY

Around 11am, I left our sister hospital and went to my hospital (main campus). As soon as I got there, daycare called to say Jackson was running a fever. I left right away to go pick him up. I gave him Motrin as soon as we got home and he improved a ton!

When my mom got home from work, we went to run some errands. I returned pants to Kohl’s and got Jackson some pants and long sleeves (I only have summer clothes in his size since Charleston is so hot and it was so cool on Thursday morning!). We went to Target to grab a few things and then to Costco to stock up on some food.

As soon as we got home, I headed downtown since my friend, Jessie, was in Atlanta for the evening from South Korea. I haven’t seen her in so long but it was so nice to see her! She knows Jon from elementary school and is married to Jon’s best friend from childhood and we love them! Her husband is working out in South Korea for three years and they just got there. So, very nice to see her! And it was a beautiful night. We sat outside and had dinner and then walked around Piedmont Park. It’s been so long since I’ve really been downtown to hang out, especially now that Kassie moved out of that area.

FRIDAY

Jon was here on Friday! He came in town on Thursday night since Charleston was evacuating for the storm and he figured he might as well come be with us! Jon actually ended up covering some cases in the Atlanta territory (at the hospital he also worked at as an x-ray tech before taking this job), so it was just me and my bub!

I took Jackson to the pediatrician in the morning for his 18 month check up. Poor boy hated it! He was so upset about being there and he got so nervous when anybody walked in the room!

The blurry bottom of the photo is because my screen protector is broken, haha. Need to buy a new one.

I stopped to get coffee on my way home since I knew I’d have some time to sit and relax for a bit while Jackson napped. Jackson took a good nap when we got home and I worked on a paper for school. I basically spent all afternoon working on a paper since Jon got home around the same time. I ran out to the gym in the afternoon and then spent the evening just hanging out with Jon.

IMG_9006

At 9pm, Jackson woke up screaming his head off. It continued until 2am. SO frustrating. We had been giving him Motrin and Tylenol all day and it shouldn’t have worn off by then, but we gave more (we alternated it). I think he just got overly tired and would not calm down. We finally gave him Benadryl at 1am and put him in the car and he calmed down as soon as we got in the car. Finally, at 2am, he was sound asleep so Jon and I got to go to bed too!

SATURDAY

I was on call from 7a-11a and thankfully, I did not get called in! I couldn’t have handled it after our Friday night! I planned on working out in the morning if I didn’t get called in, but no way. We all slept until 8am and then just hung out at home until I left at 10am to go to work. I worked 11a-7p and came home and hung out since I wanted to get in bed early.

IMG_9028

SUNDAY

Much of the same as Saturday! I didn’t get called in at 7am, so I ran to the grocery store before work and then got ready and headed out to work 11a-7p. I went Laura’s once I got off work to check on her cats. I was there for awhile feeding them and changing out their water and scooping the litter box. I stopped by Newk’s for a sandwich and then got home and relaxed with Jon for a little while.

MONDAY

Today! I got to go to the gym first thing in the morning! Woohoo! My morning gym sessions are what I miss most about Charleston! I actually tried to go to CrossFit at 7:45, but it was closed today (the owners are stranded in some other state post-competition because flights aren’t coming into Atlanta, and I guess nobody else ran the classes). Instead, I headed down to LA Fitness. It was so empty in there! I wasn’t really feeling a workout at all this morning, but once I got started, I got into it.

I came home and joined my boys for some breakfast. We had to take quick showers after and head back to the pediatrician for a shot for Jackson since we postponed it on Friday because of his fever.

In the waiting room.

During my bub’s nap time, Jon and I started planning France! I’m super excited about our trip together but wish we had another two or three days at least! We’re going Alsace, the Alps, Burgundy, and Paris. It’ll be a jam packed trip but I love that, so it’s fine!

IMG_9018

I sat down now to do schoolwork (don’t tell Jon, haha). The storm is just getting here and the wind is picking up, so I assume we’ll be spending our afternoon at home. I’m supposed to intern tomorrow, so we’ll see how the weather is and if daycare is open or not! My poor boy is super fussy from his shot and probably from not eating all weekend so it’s a rough afternoon around here…

Weekend Recap

I know it’s Tuesday, but life is back to it’s usual craziness! I already talked about the actual move on Friday, so here goes the rest of the weekend! I took like, three pictures all weekend so this long post is not going to be very pleasing to look at. Oops!

SATURDAY

Jon was in town on Saturday morning, so we got up early and I ran to Whole Foods while he did breakfast with Jackson. As soon as I got home, we headed up to the outlets to get more basic shirts for my internship. I found a few plain tank tops and a few new sweaters. I think I have enough to make it through a year. I’m only interning two days a week, at most, so a few sweaters and tanks and I’m all set.

I started cooking on Saturday afternoon and Jon was going to head out to run errands for me, but had car troubles. Put a bit of a damper on our afternoon. We were able to run to the park with Jackson for a bit in the afternoon, but we had to be back during the day so he could see what was going on with his truck.

I did a quick Piyo workout video, but really, I ended up mostly stretching more than following along. My body was still so sore.

Jon and I caught up on Bachelor in Paradise on Saturday night and I was in bed by 10pm.

SUNDAY

I worked 7a-11a on Sunday and then I was free! I was on call until 3 but didn’t get called in, thankfully. I ran to Whole Foods again because I forgot cottage cheese on Saturday morning (also still forgot hummus).

I got home and Jon was getting ready to leave. I was so sad! I knew I’d be sad about the distance but it was much harder than I thought. I’m okay being away from him, but with a kid, it’s totally different. I just feel bad that Jackson doesn’t get time with his daddy and that they’ll only have Saturday during the day and Sunday mornings together for so long. It was definitely a hard goodbye, even though Jon will be back this Friday. I think the initial goodbye was just the hardest since we aren’t into the swing of things yet.

Gina came over after Jon left. We hung out at home and got some stuff done and then went to Panera for lunch. I can’t say that I enjoy eating out with Jackson, but that’s the phase of life we’re in!

I’ve been having some issues with my stomach lately. Every time I eat, I get nauseous and gassy and have stomach pain. My appetite has been really decreased and I’m just not feeling right at all. It started Wednesday and was really bad Thursday morning when I went to meet up with Lisa and Nora. After Panera, I felt so awful. Ugh.

I had to prepare lunches for daycare and work and get Jackson’s diapers ready for daycare. I was trying to figure out what needed to be done the next morning. I was in bed by 10pm again!

MONDAY

Back to the grind! Up at 5:40 to get myself and Jackson ready. We got him to his first day of daycare and he did great at drop off. Definitely a little unsure, but toys distracted him.

I felt so awful on my way to the hospital. I had to stop at Target for a notebook and noticed I had blood in my stool and was just feeling awful. I can still function- it’s not like I just need to lay down, but it is not a pleasant feeling.

My first day of my internship was good. I’m actually pretty excited about it. It was busy but I liked attending the meetings and seeing what was happening. The time flew by and it was 4pm before I knew it.

I picked up Jackson from daycare. He did pretty well during the day there. He just wanted Mama snuggles though when I got him and it was so sweet. And he was in such a good mood when we got home! We didn’t get home until after five, so much later than I’m used to.

We ate dinner and cleaned up dishes and did laundry and the usual adult things. I got Jackson ready for bed and put him down a little early since I’m waking him up a bit earlier now.

I spent almost two hours writing a discussion post and working on my clinical log and then watched Bachelor in Paradise and hit that sack around 11pm.

TUESDAY

We had a slower morning today since it’s my off day this week. I dropped Jackson off a little while ago and it didn’t go as smoothly. He was eating breakfast with his friends when I left and they were all digging in and Jackson was just kind of looking at his food and seemed unsure of his yogurt/banana combo. He started crying when I kissed him goodbye and clung to me. I know I’ve spent tons of days away from him, but it still breaks my heart when he cries when I leave. I wish I could stay and snuggle him all day!

I’m heading out to the doctor this morning about my stomach. I don’t feel as terrible this morning, but still nauseous and lacking an appetite. This just seems way different than my usual nausea/not feeling well illnesses. Not sure what’s going on. I want to get this resolved and get back to working out. I don’t want to work out when it’s hard to eat food though, because I have to work tomorrow and Friday and intern on Thursday, so I can’t be depleting myself of all of my energy!

Then I’ll spend all day working on assignments! Probably won’t have tons of time since I doubt I’ll get home until later with this appointment, but at least I’ll get a little uninterrupted time!

New Toddler Do & Moving Week

Hey  guys! It’s been a stressful week, but I thought I’d come leave a super quick update instead of having such sparse blog posts.

Jackson went to his sitter’s house on Tuesday and Wednesday, so I spent the days working on a paper. I snuck in workouts at the gym on Tuesday morning and on Wednesday afternoon before my massage (at the chiropractor). I hung out with Jon in the evenings and tried to soak in the last of our time together. And we binge watched Bachelor in Paradise!

IMG_8740
Jackson trying on my jewelry one morning.

On Thursday morning, I had a playdate with Lisa and Nora. I decided to swing by and get Jackson’s hair cut before we all met at the Firetruck Museum in North Charleston. The girl who cut his hair this time let me hold him, so it was much better this time around! He did great. He looks like such a big boy with this haircut! I had them go super short so we don’t have to bother with it again for awhile.

IMG_8810

We got to the museum by 9:30 and Jackson ran around until it opened. Lisa and Nora showed up a few minutes after us. They opened at 10 and once we went in, Jackson just wanted to climb the stairs and this metal climbing wall that they have there. I swear, all he wants to do anymore is climb!

We left in time for him to fall asleep in the car. I watched TV and ate lunch during his nap. I decided to finally start packing for Atlanta, which I thought would be a quick task! Wrong! I hadn’t been able to go through my clothes in awhile since I was pregnant and then my body was so different postpartum. I did get rid of a ton of clothes when we moved, but I was hanging onto things that I was unsure about. I ended up getting rid of a huge laundry basket full of clothes! Then I had to get Jackson up early to go to the dermatologist. I figured I might as well get a skin check since I have so many moles and was calling to set an appointment for Jon.

I loved the dermatologist I saw. She took off three moles. She was concerned about one, but I think that despite it being atypical, it has been like that for my entire life. Hopefully it comes back okay. The other two I had removed because they bother me- one is always sensitive when my shirts rub over it or when I get massages, and the other is near my bra line and was raised up, so I was always rubbing it and irritating it.

We went straight from there to my last chiropractic visit, which I’m sad about! It has made such a huge difference in my back pain and when I missed appointments with Iceland and being out of town for my Vermont trip, my back pain started coming back. Hopefully with strength training and having some of the issue resolved, it’ll continue to get better.

Once I got home with Jackson, we started packing again. I finished going through clothes and trying outfits on for my internship and figuring out what I could possibly wear. I bought some tank tops (for cheap) thinking they’d be good, but they’re too flowy and look weird with sweaters. I really like the shirts, so at least I can still wear them on a daily basis. So I think I just need to get some basic tops that aren’t so tight. I don’t really like tight shirts anymore anyway, but I guess that’s what I used to wear.

I was kind of sad packing up to leave. I don’t even know when I’ll be back in Charleston, but leaving Jackson’s room where we do bedtime as a family and our guest bedroom where I do all of my work… I always felt like Atlanta was home because my life has been in Atlanta for so long… Even when I did travel nursing and saw so many places I loved, I just never felt like anywhere else could be home. But now that my whole (immediate) family was together in another location, it did feel like home somewhere else. I liked my play dates there and the park and I got used to our townhouse. I’m ready for life with my husband again and I’m not even done with my first day away!

I woke up early this morning so that Jackson and I could get on the road. We left by 9am and got home (to my parent’s house) around 3:15. I never go near Atlanta when I come back here, but today my GPS said it was 30 minutes faster so I went with it. Big mistake! I hit stop and go traffic at 1:50 and Jackson was so fussy and I was so irritated. I even told him to shut up (horrible mother moment- like, he’s 1 1/2- I need to learn to control myself!). We stopped at a rest area right before we hit traffic but he wasn’t poopy, didn’t want to eat, didn’t want to walk around… Just wanted to be held. Ugh. The traffic reminded me that I never, ever, ever want to move back to the metro-Atlanta area. Once this 9 months is up, we’re out of here for good!

Jackson had a tough afternoon, but I did get everything unpacked. I had to make some more space in the kitchen and put all my clothes away. I washed all my sweaters so I won’t smell like a stale closet if I wear them. I tried to get in a workout, but I made it through 20 minutes and quit. Jackson was into everything and I was not motivated at all and my body just felt tired. And I drank a huge shake beforehand because I was starving and it was not sitting well! Oh well. Tomorrow’s a new day. Jackson had a hard time going to sleep tonight. I think he’s really old enough to know he’s in a new place, and we switched his bedroom at my parent’s house so he’s in my dad’s office now, so I think it really throws him off.

Anyway, Jon should be here soon. I was going to run to Whole Foods tonight when he gets here, but I don’t know if I’ll have time. And I don’t want to anyway! I need to run to the outlets tomorrow and see if I can find some basic shirts and I need to go grocery shopping and get everything together for Monday. I work on Sunday (7a-11a, and call 11a-3p- hoping I don’t get called in!) and Gina is coming over Sunday afternoon. So, I hope

Weekend Recap

Happy Monday! I had a decent LAST weekend in Charleston! (Insert major sad face here.) It’s kind of surreal that the last week is finally here. Ever since Jon accepted this job in Charleston back in November, we knew that we’d be doing a long distance marriage for nine months come the end of August. I was hoping to make it back to Charleston quite a bit during the school year, but with Europe approaching in October, I just don’t know exactly how that’ll work. I’m pretty content in Charleston and not really ready to go back to living with my parents and being back in Atlanta quite yet, but it’s time!

FRIDAY

Friday was a productive day! Jackson went to his sitter’s so I spent a little time in the morning doing work for my health and wellness business and then got started on my schoolwork for the rest of the day.

I picked Jackson up earlier than usual (his sitter had plans) and we hung out for a bit at home. In the evening, I was itching to get out of the house after being stuck inside all day. I really wanted to head downtown to get Jeni’s ice cream, but since it was 5pm on a Friday, we just decided to go to Marble Slab. Jackson wasn’t too sold on the ice cream. We hit up TJ Maxx afterwards and then came home to get Jackson ready for bed.

IMG_8593

I did a bunch of work on Friday night for the health and wellness biz. I literally spent like, two hours chatting with a possible future coach and clients. It’s so crazy to be doing work on a Friday night and loving it, but I really enjoy building these relationships with people. I wish I had more time to give this business my all right now.

After I finally quit doing work, Jon and I started watching Ozark on Friday night on Netflix. I wasn’t sold on the first episode because I was really wanting something light and mindless to watch.

SATURDAY

Jon’s coworker passed after a battle with breast cancer last week, so Jon had a funeral to go to on Saturday in Savannah. I was seriously so tired on Saturday morning. I typically go to the gym with Jackson, but instead I laid on the couch and dozed in and out of sleep until 9:15 while Jackson ran around. I woke up and still wasn’t feeling fantastic (I think Jackson and I both caught some sort of cold or other virus this past week), so I put Moana on and Jackson watched the whole movie while I did work in the morning.

IMG_8584_Fotor

I finally got it together during nap time and showered and ate something substantial. I was living off of my superfoods shakes in the mornings over the last week because my appetite disappeared with whatever bug I caught, so lunch has been my first real meal of the day. When Jackson woke up from his nap, he was super fussy, as usual over the last week. I gave him some Tylenol and threw him in the bath to calm him down. Once his meds kicked in and we had a happy boy, we headed to Barnes & Noble to get out of the house. It would have been great to play outside, but it has been ungodly humid out lately!

Jon got home at five, so Jackson and I planned to get home at the same time. We had some family time and then Jon had errands to run after bedtime and I did some work. Then we binge watched Ozark (binge watching is two episodes for us). I decided I really like the show a lot and we were totally hooked.

SUNDAY

Jackson let us sleep until 7:30 on Sunday! It was fabulous! Jon usually takes the morning shift on Sundays so I can have a slow morning in bed. I just get tired of rolling out of bed and washing a butt and doing breakfast every day. The mornings are always the same. I never stay in bed long, but it’s still nice to lay in my soft sheets and wake up slowly.

It was looking pretty overcast, but I really wanted to have one last beach weekend in Charleston. The beach is totally my happy place and Jackson always loves it too. We went out to Sullivan’s Island near the sandbar so we’d have calm waters for Jackson. He ran out and dug in the sand with his big yellow shovel, and then finally we got in the water and swam a bit. He’s been getting braver and has been wanting to swim. We walked out to the huge sandbar and it was pretty empty, so he ran around for awhile until Jon took him in the waves. He was loving the waves yesterday. He was actually super upset to get out of the water, but it was getting close to nap time. After a quick snack, we loaded up and left.

IMG_8729

IMG_8667

IMG_8695

Jackson fell asleep within the first five minutes of being in the car. He never does that anymore! Jon and I showered during his nap and had lunch while watching another episode of Ozark.

Jackson woke up in his usual fussy mood (for the week, anyway). We gave him some Tylenol and let him relax with us. He kept refusing to eat and then finally threw up on the kitchen table (lovely). Once he calmed down and ate a banana, we headed out to Target for some bigger swim trunks for him.

We got home and decided to watch an episode of Ozark while Jackson was awake, which was a total mistake. We finally gave up and Jon went to fold laundry with Jackson while I cleaned up the kitchen and floors.

I had to babysit for my sitter for a few hours last night, so I headed over to her house to do that. I got some schoolwork and business stuff done. I got home at 11:30 and slept off and on most of the night.

MONDAY

And now it’s Monday! Today is Day 1 of my new challenge group. So I’m back to grain free eating and no more ice cream! I plan on hitting up the gym Monday-Thursday and then I’ll go back to my home workouts once I leave for Atlanta on Friday. Jackson is with his sitter on Tuesday and Wednesday this week so I can get work done, so I think we’ll spend Monday at the gym and Target. I would try to go to the Children’s Museum this afternoon, but three million people are supposed to be in town for the eclipse, so I bet we’ll just stay at home…

Friday Favorites & Weekly Recap

It’s FRIDAY! It has been a busy week! Jackson’s sitter had some personal issues so didn’t have Jackson this week, and it was tough getting schoolwork done and making progress with my health and wellness business.

I’ve been taking the business slow since I knew school was starting soon, but now I’m really just anxious to be more productive with it on my own. I have a few people starting this next challenge group with me, but I want to run my own. I think over the next month, I’m going to work on getting everything ready to run my own. Hopefully I’ll be into the swing of things by then and it’ll be much more manageable. I’m really loving connecting with other like-minded women and am so excited for the time when I can dedicate more time to the business. Also, the UK launch party is in London the day that Jon and I were planning to fly back from Budapest in October and I think I may be able to swing it to go to the UK launch! I’m really hoping I can make it work because I would love to meet my upline coach and to meet the future UK coaches!

I’m feeling frustrated with my master’s program since most of my assignments are dependent upon discussions with my preceptor. Since I’m not back in Atlanta yet, I haven’t had any discussions with my preceptor yet and it’s halting my assignments. I totally understand that my preceptor is busy with the department and answering my email is not a top priority, but I’m still stressed because I have papers to start on and I can’t until I get information on our departmental budget.

Anyway, back to the week though! I’ve been trying to work in my schoolwork during nap times and in the evenings. We had mornings at the gym (because I need nap time for school!) so that Jackson could get out of the house. He’s been teething and I think he had a bit of a cold, so our afternoons have been pretty miserable. Lots of snuggling and not much of anything productive.

Laura came in town from Atlanta on Wednesday night, so she was here yesterday morning. We went to the Children’s Museum and then hung out at the house while Jackson napped in the afternoon. Laura left around 3:30 yesterday to meet up with her friend who was flying into Charleston, so I had a low-key afternoon.

That is really all that has happened this week! Being back in school has put a damper on doing anything exciting and it’s been stressful trying to juggle school with being a full time mom for the week.

We have a boring weekend ahead. Jon is going to be gone for a funeral all day tomorrow, so it’ll just be Jackson and me all day long. I’m hoping we can head to the beach on Sunday morning and then I can spend the afternoon doing school work. I wish this wasn’t how the last weekend as a family in Charleston was going, but I’m grateful to have my entire family happy, healthy, and alive, so I can’t complain too much.

I’m really hoping to start on Iceland recaps soon! I’ve been so overwhelmed with the amount of stuff I have to do on the computer and I am still not done with Jon’s Father’s Day album! Ugh! I could spend days on this dang computer and not be caught up on everything!

Alrighty, last of all, I’m not doing a real Friday Favorites because I rarely try anything new, but I had two major finds this week that I was SUPER excited about! If anybody is friends with me on Facebook, you already know about my excitement.

Betabrand Pants

I found pants that fit without being altered! Betabrand are YOGA dress pants! They are awesome! They’re so comfortable and they definitely fit the bill for dress casual! I wish I had found these pants before spending all of that money altering my other dress pants! I bought an XS petite short and they fit great, and I’m 5′ and 100lbs, in case anybody needs a reference. I also found that tons of working moms knew about these pants, but I live in scrubs for work and it has been years since I’ve needed to buy new dress pants. I have one power suit to wear for interviews, and that was what I wore to the two interviews I have been to in the last seven years! Other than that, scrubs FTW!

20842198_10100724797432442_1203527748198554743_n

Audrey Brooke Ballet Flats

I also found these Audrey Brooke Winny shoes that I LOVE! My right foot is closer to a size 7 and my left foot is closer to a 6.5, so flats never work because my feet are such different sizes. These are so comfortable and they fit both feet! They run big (these are a 6) for sure, but I am just so glad I found flats that work! I was in serious need of some new ones for my internship. I’ve seriously been wearing the same pair of Target flats for almost ten years now and they are ragged. The other pair of flats that I wear are dirty leopard prints flats (also from Target) that Crista was going to throw out and I snagged them. They’re so comfortable because she already wore them in, but they’re in rough shape too! I have a nicer pair, but they’re so uncomfortable and I hate them! They also have a big button on them and I feel like they look too childish to be wearing for business casual.

This Is Me: Love Yourself Naked 21 Day Challenge

I finally completed my 21 day “This Is Me: Love Yourself Naked” challenge! The challenge included doing my home workout program, checking in with my online group, and drinking my superfoods shake daily. I had planned on following the Shift Shop program, which was 21 days with rest days on Sundays. The workouts increased from 25 minutes sessions in week one, to 35 minute sessions in week two, to 45 minute sessions in week three.

I actually really liked the workouts, but I quickly got bored doing the same moves all the time. I went to the 45 minute workouts almost immediately. I also continued to do my own workouts at the gym, so sometimes I was doubling up on workouts. I think I doubled up maybe 4 days total, just for reference. I took my first rest day on day 9 and had 4 total rest days during the challenge. I ended up switching and doing Shaun Week for the last week instead of Shift Shop (both workout programs), which was a lot of fun! Definitely my style of working out! But both programs had me working way harder than I thought I would at home! Towards the end, I would do either my own gym workouts or Shaun Week, but not both. With school back in session, I just didn’t have the time to double up anymore.

I missed one day of my superfoods shake, which I was fine with. I planned on having it in the evening and felt nauseous by the evening. But I played around with recipes and can honestly say that now I love my shakes! They’re so good! I have wanted to drink two every day because they’re so good! I feel like my energy is a lot more consistent throughout the day. Instead of having a mid afternoon crash every afternoon and needing coffee, I felt pretty energetic! I only had coffee if I was in the mood for it and chose decaf most of the days.

The accountability group definitely kept me more active. During the 21 days, I went back and forth to Atlanta twice (both with Jackson), Jon had surgery on his elbow and couldn’t take care of Jackson at all for two full weeks, we hosted family in town, and I started school again. I guarantee that had it not been for my accountability group, I would have taken way more rest days! I probably would have worked out only a handful of days that entire time. I am super consistent with my activity when I’m home, as I discussed before, but when life gets crazy, I take that time to just let my body rest.

My personal goal for the challenge was to give up grains. I didn’t actually decide that on Day 1, so I had sushi and ice cream on Day 1. It was after that that I decided to cut grains out since I felt so horrible after that meal. Later on, I had part of a brownie one night at Kassie’s birthday celebration, probably 1/3 pan of brownies in one day when we hosted Jon’s family (go big or go home!), and ice cream another night. But anything I ate at home (other than the brownies that one day) was grain free. So, not perfect by any means because I still had dessert, but more in line with how I want to eat again.

While I actually enjoyed the accountability for working out, I didn’t even try to stick to the meal plan for the program. I also feel like this far into my fitness journey, I just don’t need an accountability group. I don’t feel the need to go 21 days without dessert if I want it either. I took rest days when I wanted/needed them and was fine with it. I liked the accountability group and look forward to doing them in the future. Hopefully I’ll find a person to join me each time! I like the energy of being in a group where women are trying to get in shape and want to live a healthier life. I liked checking in daily and feeling encouraged to stay active by other people.

This business has been so motivating, honestly. Although I have generally surrounded myself with other active people through CrossFit or ClassPass, my close friends aren’t necessarily super active. They’re not huge into fitness. That is totally fine, obviously, but becoming a health and wellness coach has opened me up to so many other likeminded people! I love chatting with them and I love our team calls, where I get to talk to people who are motivated about making health a huge part of their lives. I love that these women run these accountability groups (and I will too!) and genuinely care about the health of women that they have never even met! Being in this huge group of other health coaches makes me so excited about the lives that I’ll be able to change in my future.

Now, on to the Before and After photos!

Unfortunately, I left my camera in Atlanta so the quality of my after photos is a little different. Also, I should have had Jon take full body photos, but it’s a little too late to go back and redo them! My goal was obviously not to lose weight. I actually didn’t have any specific goals for my body. My goals for this challenge were to cut out grains, to work out consistently, and to see how this program worked for my body.

Before and After_Fotor RESIZE

I did cut back a bit on the bloating! Overall, I thought the challenge was great, I loved my shakes, and I am excited to help others reach their goals with this program!

Weekend Recap

Happy Monday! Time for a quick weekend update! I’m saving my Richmond recap and my 21 Day Challenge recap for later this week, but they’re coming!

FRIDAY

Friday morning, Jackson and I went to a park with our neighbor and her two year-old son. It was so hot, but thankfully it was kind of overcast. Jackson had a blast running around and he’s definitely getting more daring on the equipment. Makes me a little nervous! We came home to do a quick bath before his nap and he fell right to sleep after all of that running around!

I worked on some schoolwork for a little while and showered while Jackson napped. I was way too hot to go back out to work out in the garage, so I decided to take a rest day and be productive in other areas!

Jon’s twin sister, Jamie Lynn, and her husband and two boys came in town on Friday afternoon. They got here while Jackson was still asleep. We ended up just hanging out at the house Friday evening and the boys all ran around and played outside. It was fun having the cousins in town! We did a quick and easy dinner (Jon smoked wings). We’re such bad hosts and had nothing planned at all for any of the meals!

We all went to bed around 9:30 like the ol’ folks that we are! It was kind of nice to have an early night in bed though!

SATURDAY

I made breakfast on Saturday morning for everybody and we sat around and drank coffee together. I love slow cups of coffee with visitors!

After our breakfast and getting the kids ready, we headed out to the splash pad at one of the county parks around here. We got there as soon as it opened at 10am, and by 10:30 it was so packed! There were two birthday parties happening and Jackson almost got T-boned by a bunch of bigger kids running around numerous times. We decided to play on the playground for a bit before heading home for nap time.

I did one of my home workouts once Jackson was in bed. It was so humid out! I also realized my weights are different brands and the ends are different sizes, so it felt weird because of the uneven distribution of weight. Why can I not get this weight thing right?! I’m loving my home workouts, oddly enough. Doing them outside is so much better.

Once Jackson was up, we all headed downtown to go to the Children’s Museum. Jamie Lynn’s kids are a little older than Jackson, so our families did our own thing. Jackson usually hangs out in the baby room, but we ventured out and he played outside and we colored in the art room.

Our Saturday evening was pretty low key again. We got home and fed the kids dinner and put them to bed. The big kids (adults) all hung out watching HGTV and were in bed by 11.

SUNDAY

On Sunday, Jamie Lynn’s family left early in the morning. We had a slow morning at home and then Jon and I ran errands. I returned my weights to Wal-Mart so I think we’re finally set now for our weights though!

I spent an hour and a half falling asleep and laying on the couch after we got home from running errands. I needed to work out but lacked all my motivation since I knew we weren’t going to have family time in the afternoon. I finally got myself up and moving, even though I really didn’t want to go to the gym. Glad I made it though! It’s much busier on Sunday afternoons than Sunday mornings, but I still had a really good leg workout.

Jon wants to make sure everybody knows that he does not sit like that and that he was mimicking Jackson.

I spent my Sunday afternoon doing schoolwork, since our sitter had some personal issues and may not be able to watch Jackson this week. It’s a bummer wasting family time on school, but it’s hard to concentrate on school while Jackson is awake during the day. He requires a lot of attention and wants to get into everything that I’m doing. So, weekends and evenings have become a time of schoolwork already! I just have to remind myself that this will all be over in 9 months!

Jon made us steaks in the sous vide last night, but they ended up not being my favorite. He didn’t let them rest since the recipe said you don’t have to with the sous vide, but then there ended up being blood on my place. It grossed me out too much so I didn’t really eat the steak. Unfortunate, too, because grassfed steaks are not cheap and I hate to waste expensive food!

I went to bed by 9:30 last night. Jon and I were going to watch something on TV together but I couldn’t even think about looking at another screen for any longer after spending my entire afternoon on the computer. An early night in bed was much needed though!

MONDAY

This morning, we woke up and headed to the gym together! Thankfully, Jackson has been in a great mood in the mornings, although our afternoons lately have been pretty rough. I think we’ll head to Barnes & Noble this afternoon. I’m about to put him down for a nap and shower and get more schoolwork done.

The Last Year of Grad School

I can’t believe it’s already Thursday! This week is flying by. Yesterday I started back to school! Ahhh! I’m already kind of stressed out looking at all of the assignments for the semester. I just have a hard time picturing a schedule that incorporates work, school, Jackson, fitness coaching, working out, and a long distance marriage that doesn’t run me ragged. And I’m even considering applying to a management position where I work, but I don’t know if I can even fathom that right now. I feel like I’m way under qualified anyway, so maybe I should apply just to feel like I tried.

When I checked my school email yesterday, I had an email from our program coordinator reminding us to apply for graduation! The deadline is October 1st. I can’t believe it’s time to apply for graduation! I know this year is going to be tough, but in nine months, I will be done with this chapter of life. I’m really proud of myself for pursuing this master’s degree. No idea where it’ll lead me, but I’m okay with that right now.

I spent yesterday morning running errands, as always. I returned my horrible adjustable weights to Wal-Mart and opted for two 10lb weights, two 15lb weights, and one 25lb weight. I have 5lbs and I think I may invest in 8lb weights also. Now I have a nice little workout area in my garage!

I’m kind of bummed that this space is temporary. Since I’ll be moving back in with my parents in a few weeks, I’ll be doing my workouts in one of the bedrooms there. Or I could take them to the deck once it cools off a little bit. But I like this little area. It has been so nice getting my workouts in at home and not having to go to the gym. I still love the gym, but when I’m in a hurry, this has been huge. I’ll discuss this more in my 21 day recap that’s coming up soon.

Jon and I decided to cancel the surgery to get tubes for Jackson’s ears. Well, Jon decided to. I’m just kind of going with it. He hasn’t had an ear infection in the last few weeks and typically, he’s not too miserable with the ear infections anyway. If Jon doesn’t want to do a surgery, then I’m okay with it.

But speaking of my little terror, life is rough with him lately. We’re in a huge hitting phase and it is driving me insane. He also is throwing tantrums when I pick him up and flails his body around. The kid is a big boy! He can be hard to handle. I’m feeling like I need to read some parenting books on how to handle these outbursts in a way that he’ll understand at this age. I definitely feel myself getting impatient and frustrated much more easily than I’d like at times. If we have a slow day at home, I can handle anything. I don’t get frustrated at all. But when we’re in a hurry or I’m trying to do stuff, he really gets on my nerves.

Last night, my neighbor (Ashley) was having a gender reveal party. I picked Jackson up from his sitter and got dinner together before we headed over there around 5:30. We ended up staying until close to 7pm. It was fun! I’m feeling sad about leaving Charleston! I know I haven’t met a ton of people here yet, but I have met a few people and I’m just content with where we are right now. I want to stay and pursue friendships with the people that I’ve met and build up more of a network.

Anyway, I should be hopping off of here. I’m trying to get some schoolwork done and I have a feeling Jackson will be up soon. I plan on making some Paleo pumpkin muffins this afternoon. Jon should be home around 4:30 and I’m excited to see him. I was in Atlanta all weekend and then Jon stayed in Savannah last night, so I haven’t spend any time with him lately. My sister-in-law and her family will be here tomorrow night.

Long Weekend Updates

Happy August, y’all! Today is my parent’s 36th wedding anniversary. I just counted that like, 10 times to be sure, but it is. Thirty-six years is a long time!

Jon and I had a long weekend together since he had elbow surgery on Thursday. I had actually planned on dropping him off and getting some stuff done in the morning before his surgery, but he was a little nervous and he never gets nervous, so I decided to stay with him. I ended up getting a ton of work done at the surgery center since I had about six hours there. Thankfully, everything went well and we headed home in the late afternoon. The rest of our Thursday was pretty low-key, other than some errand running since Jon was out of commission all day and he was tired from the anesthesia.

Jackson went to his sitter on Friday, so I had the whole day to myself for the first time in awhile! Unfortunately, after going to the gym, I had to clean our bathrooms and do some other adulting.

Since Jon was off work because of his surgery, we decided to take advantage of our freedom and go out and get some lunch. He had been waiting on his coworker to come by the house to pick some stuff up so we got a later start than we had planned on, but we still had plenty of time to go grab lunch downtown at Fleet Landing. Jon is still mostly keto and I’m eating grain-free for now (and hopefully forever), so we went with a seafood place. I ended up getting the meal of the day, which was fish tacos. They were only $10 and they were actually pretty good! I resisted dessert because, well, 21 Day Challenge. I need some abs or something to show for this, and I’m not going to get them from dessert.

I skipped the tortillas and had them make a fish salad, and I didn’t eat the rice.

We spent Friday night hanging around the house, as usual.

On Saturday morning, I headed out to the gym with Jackson since Jon can’t really care for him solo with his cast on. We didn’t get out of the house until later on since we were just relaxing at home in the morning, so by the time we got home, Jackson was ready for his nap. I completed my at-home workout and got ready for the day.

Jackson took a super long nap on Saturday! It was fantastic! I drank some coffee and did work on my new health & wellness business after getting ready until he woke up.

Once Jackson was up, the family headed to the Children’s Museum downtown since we hadn’t been in awhile. It was super packed there but Jackson had tons of fun going down the slide 10,000 times.

Our Saturday night was low-key again because that’s just how life is with a kid who goes to bed at 7pm. I’ve been Googling “questions for your spouse” and Jon and I have been reading them and answering them together, so we did that. It’s kind of fun to do something different, instead of just watching Netflix together.

I typically love my Sunday morning gym time because nobody goes to the gym on Sunday morning and I have it all to myself, but they don’t have childcare on Sundays so I was stuck at home with the boys. I took my workout to the garage and did a 45 minute speed session. Jon and Jackson played outside while I got my sweat on. After finishing my workout, I got ready, had lunch, and did more work during nap time.

After Jackson woke up, we decided to go to the Fire Museum in North Charleston. We weren’t sure what to expect with a toddler there, but it was only $6 for each adult so we didn’t have too much to lose. Jackson actually loved it though. He ran around and looked at the fire trucks and had fun pressing all the buttons on the displays. They even have a simulator of driving a fire truck, so we took him in that so he could drive. It was kind of loud and bumpy, so he wasn’t a big fan but it was still cute!

After bedtime, Jon and I watched What the Health to see what the hubbub over that movie is all about. I actually thought I had watched the documentary, but turns out, I just read the description and then watched a different documentary. It wasn’t until I saw a clip of the video on Facebook that I realized I had never seen it. I think this article gives a good rundown of why I thought the documentary was total BS. I do agree with it being backwards that large foundations are backed by the food industry and wish that wasn’t the case (down with big pharma and Monsanto!), but that’s just how we roll in the US. Maybe one day, money won’t run everything, but our country is just not there yet. Other than that though, the movie was just crazy talk and did a good job at creating fear in those who never research anything else about nutrition.

Jon had a light day Monday for work, so we hung out around the house a bit on Monday morning before Jackson and I headed out to the gym. Our mornings look the same most of the time. Jackson has breakfast, I have breakfast, I clean up, I get Jackson ready, I get myself ready, we go to thy gym, I give Jackson a snack, he goes down for a nap, I eat lunch, I get ready, and I do work until he wakes up. We did throw in a little walk outside since it was nice out before his nap. This dude loves being outside!

Since it was magically beautiful out in Charleston yesterday, I decided to take advantage of the weather! I took Jackson to the park in the afternoon and he found a 9 year-old boy that was obsessed with playing with him. We did a quick dinner and bath when we got home and relaxed for the evening together.

After Jackson went to bed, Jon and I had our third marriage counseling session. We talked about my love of travel most of the time (Jon thinks I travel too much and I think I don’t travel enough). We’re still in those early counseling stages, so I’m not sure if it’s made a difference, especially because we’ve spent a ton of time apart since we started going. But I still think it’ll end up being a good thing for us in the long run! We mostly decided to start doing marriage counseling just to work on our communication, but that also makes counseling hard because we don’t really have any major issue to overcome. So I think it’ll take more time to pinpoint how to make improvements, but I just like that we’re working on our marriage together and have a sounding board to tell us if we’re both just crazy.

Jackson went back to this sitter this morning so this if my first real free day in awhile! Since I’ve spent a lot of my summer traveling, I’ve been using all of our days at the sitter for when I’m out of town, or for things like Jon having surgery. School starts in 8 days (WAHHH!), so I decided to get in a few days with the sitter so I could do some major relaxing beforehand! I ended up heading to the beach this morning. Although I’m still doing my “This Is Me: Love Yourself Naked” 21 day challenge, I decided to take today as a total rest day. I’ve been continuing with my own heavier lifting workouts in addition to my at-home workouts, so there is no way I can do 21 days without a rest day. I feel like my body needs it today, so I decided to make today my rest day, which meant that I got an earlier start at the beach. It was so incredibly windy on the water and I kept getting covered in sand, but it was beautiful out! Loved every second of being out in the fresh air, as always. I swear, I was made for the ocean.

IMG_8235

I got some iced coffee after the beach and headed to Whole Foods to pick a few things up before coming home to do more work on my business. I am so pumped to be doing this health & wellness business. I love talking fitness and nutrition and am so excited to help other people feel comfortable with their bodies. And because I work out and am strong AF these days (I wish I could make the laughing face emoji here so you guys know I’m being sarcastic), I carried our brand new ottoman up the stairs today! It was awkward because my arms were too short to reach around the box, but I did it. Jon didn’t want to order this until his cast is off since he didn’t think I’d be able to get it up the stairs. Bish, I work out!

IMG_8261_Edit

And that’s my whole looooong recap! Thanks for sticking with me, guys!
